The Freelance Diet

The Freelance Diet.

I, like many adults, have struggled with weight issues for a long time.

I have tried several different diet methods and eating plans.

Most did little more than lighten my wallet.

After all these trials I finally found the plan that worked for me.

This new plan cost nothing and required little or no willpower.

In fact, I just stumbled on it.

I was working as a teacher and, even though it is a known fact that teacher's don't rake in the money, I was making a decent living. My wife was bringing home a pretty good paycheck as well.

This is when I made the big jump. I decided to pursue my dream of freelance writing. This is also when my new diet plan took effect.

I found it easy to cut down on my calories because our cupboards were bare. I didn't need expensive diet pills to curb my cravings because even if I craved a pizza I couldn't afford it.

In just a few short weeks my weight began to decrease dramatically. My clothes were hanging off me and my image in the mirror began to thin out.

I increased my exercise routine simply to take my mind off the lack of work coming in. My wife was very supportive but her involuntary inclusion in this diet was wearing on her.

The irony of the situation was not lost on either of us. We looked better but could not afford a night on the town to show off our new physiques.

Work began to come in and I began to think about food again.

Unfortunately, past due bills and mortgage payments ate up most of my new found income. We found creative uses for canned vegetables and pasta. When the propane for our stove ran out we became gourmet charcoal grill and microwave chefs. If it couldn’t be nuked or grilled we didn’t need it.

This story does have a happy ending, at least for my sanity if not for my waistline.

I began to find work and my income increased.

I am at a comfortable level now and our cupboards and refrigerators are once again full. My mirror image has once again begun to fill out.

Ah, yet another diet falls to the curse of rebound.
